To Chuito the apartment was a self-imposed prison for a lifetime of sins. To Alaine, the girl next door, it was salvation from her overbearing, religious father.
He was a devil.
She was an angel.
Two people who should’ve never met, let alone become friends, but it’s not until they give into the dangerous passion that’s been simmering under the surface for five years that things go to hell.
On the outside, Chuito ‘The Slayer’ Garcia is on top of the world. He’s successful. He’s wealthy. He’s a champion MMA fighter surrounded by friends who support him, but they don’t know what he was before he came to Garnet.
Now his past is churning up demons he can’t ignore. Chuito knows he needs to go back to Miami to end it, but there’s something holding him back, a single temptation he can’t resist before leaving.
She’s the one drug he can’t give up…even if it destroys them both.
“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.” – Chuito Garcia

“I’m an addict. You know that. Getting off the drugs has never changed that. If I—”
He swallowed hard, and his voice was still full of pain. “I just can’t. I shouldn’t even touch you.”
“You drink,” she pointed out. “You’re not addicted to that.”
“Alcohol is not my drug of choice. It’s the exact opposite of it.”
“I’m not cocaine,” she reminded him.
“That’s what you think?” He glanced at her over his shoulder, his dark gaze running over her for one long, hot moment until it stopped to rest on the pink lace of her bra.
“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.”
5 “Slay Me” Stars! As many of you know, I’m a huge lover of mafia, MMA and generally any type of bad boy romances. The Slayer had it all. This is not a book to be read lightly though. It’s deep, intense and emotional. Having not previously read any books by Kele Moon, I was completely taken by surprise by the complexity of the plot and the detailed in nature way that she portrayed this sordid world and how it is shaped by a panoply of cultural influences. She doesn’t skim over the ugly parts, and she pays great attention to cultural nuances, making it all the more fascinating and fulfilling to read. If there is one thing I wish I had done, however, is read The Viper first. While The Slayer could certainly be read on its own, I got the feeling that it’s a part of something so much larger. Therefore, if you have not yet had the chance to experience this world, then I recommend that you read this series in order.
Chuito Garcia has not had an easy life, and he is no saint. Today he is a champion MMA fighter, but in his old hometown (Miami, Florida), he was a gang member. Although Garnet, Kentucky feels like a world away from Miami, try though he might, he knows that he will never be able to fully leave the taint of that life behind. So notwithstanding his current success, he has chosen a self-imposed hiatus from love.
Alaine is the complete opposite, at least in Chuito’s mind. For starters she is the daughter of a preacher. Whereas he is tainted by sins that even the devil might envy, she is as pure as an angel.
But they are both running away from a prior life of sorts, and their fate as neighbors ultimately brings them together. Try though they might to stay away from each other–even following repeated warnings–they develop a profound friendship. Over those years there is also a strong chemistry, but Chuito’s determination to not bring his past into Alaine’s present acts as a chastity belt, instead only allowing sufficient room to strengthen and grow their unique platonic friendship.
But after five years Alaine is ready to risk it all for the natural fruition of their unique connection, even while understanding that a HEA may not ultimately be in the cards. Can an alpha hero as strong and loyal as Chuito ultimately forego his natural protective instincts long enough to allow room for the possibility of attaining the pinnacle of what promises to be so much more?
What an epic read. I absolutely love good versus evil themes in romances–again as I’m a sucker for bad boy romances–and the parallels in this story were so well done. Moreover, this is not your typical two dimensional love story which nearly entirely revolves around the hero and the heroine. Instead great attention is given to develop a three dimensional story with lots of interaction among equally compelling secondary characters. And the passion, once it is unleashed, is like a volcano finally exploding with tremendous fiery heat! Ms. Moon is clearly a very talented writer, and I can’t wait to explore more of her fascinating writing!

About Kele Moon
A freckle faced, redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.
So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.
